the new look: sparkle and shine for her.

the new look

yesterday i styled paul from urbanite suburbanite in some looks for holiday parties…today it’s my turn.

“my friend kim and i are at it again—styling looks for each other. kim and i used to work together at the gap, and now we both have fashion blogs—imagine that!  i’ve loved kim’s style for years, and i always jump at the opportunity to spend time in her closet—so that’s what I did a couple of weeks ago. kim let me play, and I came up with three looks based in sparkle and shine, just in time for the holidays. but don’t let that make you think sequins are only for the holidays…any day is a great day to sparkle!”

“the holidays are a perfect excuse to sparkle at the office, even in a simple outfit. take a black blazer and winter-white skirt, and add a sequined tank. snake-print heels, simple jewelry, and a statement bag complete the look. and the best thing about this? with a few simple changes, you can take this look from desk to holiday party in a snap!” (check out the next look)

“if you’re heading out to a festive evening right after work, store a few things in your tote bag and avoid a hurried trip home. a change of jewels, heels, and a sparkly jacket completely transform a white tank and skirt. kim’s sequined jacket is killer—super versatile over a pale neutral dress, perfect here with a flippy skirt, or casually cool over a graphic t and dark skinnies. and with the shine in the jacket, the sparkle in the jewels, and the glitter in the bag, i didn’t need to add a metallic heel—a matte printed one did just fine.”

“going to a less fancy soiree, but still want to catch the light? then let your pants do the talking! these gold and black print pants are the perfect way to be comfortable AND stand out in the crowd. kim’s black and gold heels appear to have been made for these pants, so i couldn’t resist the combination.  then i added a graphic t-shirt and bomber jacket for a little masculine edge—i always love a look that plays on the boy/girl border.”
