blackwatch plaid is one of those things that signals a change in seasons to me. ever since i was a kid, i would get one around back to school time and usually wore it with jeans or a pair of cords…cultivating that preppy persona that was part of my youth. the plaid, named for the scottish infantry battalion, has been around since the 1720’s. it was traditionally made using colored threads that when woven together horizontally and vertically form new colors and then when done in larger pieces form a plaid. back then (and today) it was used in kilts more modern times, it has been used by everyone from haute couture designers jean-paul gaultier and christian lacroix to ralph lauren to old navy.
i’ve had all three of these pieces for a long time (the blazer the longest…since the late nineties), but i never thought to put the shirt and the pants together. plaids such as these can be tricky to match, so wearing a neutral blazer lets me show only part of the shirt—enough to get that they are (almost) the same.
vintage jacket, j. crew shirt, zara pants (other black watch pieces i’ve found below), hervé léger heels via dsw c/o (i also have these black heels and these are a great pair under $130), super sunglasses, céline bag, ben-amun earrings, miansai bracelet
