another look for my trip to philly featuring this gorgeous off the shoulder dress from modern citizen. it’s made of a floaty silky material and has sheer panels in the sleeves. it was the ideal weight for wandering around the humid city, but i could see wearing this in sf’s indian summer over a pair of skinny jeans or leather leggings.
these shots were taken down at penns landing, an area of the city right on the delaware river with views of…new jersey…haha! actually i spent many a weekend right along here watching fireworks, eating from food trunks, dancing at free concerts (like donna summer, the roots, and john legend), and checking out local artisans.
i still miss philly very much and it’s always going to be a major part of me. the city is so vibrant and an amazing mix of old and new. independence mall, liberty bell, etc. are just part of what you should see if you’re there on vacation. more of my favorite spots to visit (and where i ate when i was in town):
boathouse row: along the schuylkill river is wear high school, college, and club rowing teams have homes to store their boats. the dad vail regatta is my favorite event to attend
fairmount park: right next to boathouse row, it’s the largest urban landscaped park in the world and is also home to the philadelphia zoo, the oldest in the country.
museum row: home to the philadelphia museum of art, the barnes foundation (check out this documentary about it), and the rodin museum (the largest home of his work outside france). there’s also the franklin institute science museum (it has a heart you can walk through as well as a actual size locomotive inside), academy of sciences, and the please touch museum (for the kiddies)
olde city: home to lots of great interior design studios, shops, & restaurants. you’ll also find the betsy ross house and elfreth’s alley, the nation’s longest continuously inhabited residential street.
mutter museum: if you’re into weird science, this is the place for you. a large collection of medical oddities, antique equipment, and more.
eastern state penitentary: from the outside, it looks like a medieval castle, but inside was one of the oldest and most expensive prisons in the country. once home to al capone, it is believed to have ghosts and paranormal activity, as explored on film in mtv’s fear and the movie the 12 monkeys. the halloween tours are especially freaky.
morris arboretum: a 92-acre garden filled with over 12,000 kinds of plants and trees. i love the 50-foot canopy walk where you can view the gardens from above.
fork (olde city): probably one of my favorite philly restaurants for 15 years. just good food.
butcher & singer (rittenhouse square): love this steakhouse. other rittenhouse favorites include parc and rouge, both of which have outdoor seating facing the park—good people watching—and dandelion pub for proper british fare.
serpico (south street): rotating menu that’s always on point
osteria (fairmount): they have the best “high-end” pizzas, but also great other italian dishes
standard tap (northern liberties): i pretty much always go here when i’m in philly. the burger can’t be beat and the selection of beers is top notch.
talula’s garden/talula’s daily (washington square/society hill): what you’d call farm to table. talula’s daily is a great place to pick up something on the go—it’s got a coffee shop, cheese shop, salad bar, bakery and more.
volvér: for a romantic or fancy dinner out, this is my go-to. it’s closed right now for summer, but reopens early september with a new menu.
modern citizen dress (a few left, also love this top from their new collection), m.gemi sandals (sold out, similar here and here), madewell bag (comes in eight colors), super sunglasses, céline and giles and brother bracelets, cluse watch, vintage earrings
