the new look: making an investment.

the new look

like i said in my last post, i really haven’t done a ton of shopping this season. not because there aren’t things on my wishlist, but because nothing out there is really “wow-ing” me.

a new bag, however, is something i’ve been looking for. something i can carry pretty much everywhere, like a black version of my alexander wang bag. i first spotted this balenciaga back when wang first launched the le dix collection, but i was wary of the cost and the size. but i was also into the mansur gavriel bucket bag, the ps11, and the chanel boy (along with everyone else). i tried each on and thought about my lifestyle, how much i wanted to spend, and how much i’d carry this bag. when you do that, and think less about “this is the new hot thing and i want it,” it’s easier to make the right investment. i was lucky to have some barneys gift cards i was hoarding (thanks d, mom and judi!) that meant the dent in my bank account wasn’t as deep.

if you’re looking to make an investment purchase, do these things first: go to a store and try it on. think hard (like really hard) about your life, your style, how much you’ll use it and how much you want to spend. if you’re willing to go used, check out consignment shops like the real real because your investment could be someone else’s last-year’s investment. or if don’t need immediate gratification, wait for friends and family sales…shopbop’s is on right now where you can pick up a pair of leather pants, an investment i talked about here.

h & m shirt (available in store), helmut lang pants (similar here and here with a ponte back), club monaco sandals (in camel/black), balenciaga bag (also in mustard), amk x sm collar, super sunglasses, dior earrings (similar), hermes and miansai bracelets, nars satin lip pencil in hyde park
