the vacation edit.

currently coveting the new look

it’s the time of year in san francisco when i either plan or go on a summer trip to somewhere warm. mainly because it’s the time of year where the temperature here goes into the 60’s and foggy/cloudy and stays there haha. i wanted to pull together a vacation edit of the pieces i’ll be reaching for all my warm-weather trips, which include this first one to la quinta (about 40 minutes from palm springs).

because it’s also the time of year when sales start, it’s tempting to get a whole new wardrobe for a vacation, but then you end up with pieces you don’t use on the reg. the first thing i always do is assess what i already own, think about where i’m going to be traveling to, then be very selective about what to add. It’s also important to stay true to your style. it is crucial to feel like yourself when you are traveling, whether you’re going somewhere you’ve never been or a familiar place. for me, that’s remembering my three style words: refined, sexy, and unexpected. depending on the trip, i lean into certain words more than others.

la quinta is a girls’ trip with lots of pool time, going out to dinner/dancing, and lounging, so i wanted to be comfortable but also cute. the first thing i was looking for was a cute maxi coverup that could also be worn as a dress. i wanted the one from the victoria beckham x mango collab, but after seeing pics of it online, i knew it would be too long for me. i instead bought this option from commense and the fit (and length) is perfect. i’m wearing a medium and i’d say it runs true to size. (worn above with bottega veneta sunglasses, amazon the drop sandals, gifted paris 64 straw bag)

la quinta can be as casual or dressy as you want to make it; i generally keep it casual but always bring some dressier pieces (but keep the heels at home). the vacation edit starts with the casual pieces, like a few pairs of denim shorts—bermudas feel fresh with a silky halterboxers and a button down to wear post-swim or get mexican food. for swimwear, i finally found a high waist set i love from matteau in the perfect neutral stripe along with a gorgeous metal trim bandeau set for under $60 from h&m.

you always need a little mini on vacation, so scored this bec + bridge open back dress from the ssense sale (lele sadoughi earrings, prada bag borrowed from my friend)

i bought this dries van noten shirt dress a few months back (a similar option here) and it is perfect for the locale and the heat.

most of my vacation edit picks will work for some other trips coming up with summer, like l.a. and my usual east coast visit back home…check them all out here.
