the one thing: ebbets field flannels, the new way to monogram.

the one thing Uncategorized

after the preppy heyday of the eighties, the monogram went underground until the past few years where it has seen a revival. companies like ll bean and goyard have always offered it, and more recently j.crew, with its prep heritage, along with newcomer mark and graham have jumped on the monogram bandwagon. while i love a monogram, i’ve been intrigued about a new way to show off your initials and as a lover of type, wearing a monogram hat—especially a vintage one—is a fun idea.

ebbets field flannels (named for the former home of the brooklyn dodgers) has been around since 1988, when owner jerry cohen started hunting down vintage flannel jerseys to wear onstage in his band. initially the company focused on non-major league teams, like the negro league and the pre-1958 pacific coast league, and then moved into football and hockey. everything is made in the usa using original patterns, and jerseys and flannels are made to order. i’ve picked up this one, which works with casual wear and something dressier.

see the entire j.crew collection here or check out the ebbets website for more choices or info on how to make your own custom hat.
