s/s 2011 new york: z spoke by zac posen.

collections Uncategorized

zac posen never does things on a small scale. his runway shows are usually the spectacles of new york fashion week, and for his first showing of his lower priced line z spoke, he pulled out all the stops. he had the largest bunch of celebrities seen so far this week (kristin cavallari, kimora lee simmons, russell simmons, carmen electra, claire danes) and booked the largest venue at mercedes benz fashion week. all of that, however, would not keep the focus off the clothes, which seemed like a mish mash of things rolled into one. i had seen the pre-fall z spoke collection at saks in san francisco, and it was on the same floor as tory burch, elie tahari, and pink tartan, lines that primarily focus on the 30-something working woman. this spring collection however veered into marc by marc territory–not a bad thing if that’s what you’re looking for. for me, the 70s style pantsuits, pleated shorts, lace trimmed bloomers and fruit and face prints read too juvenile and cutesy (the feminine cuteness of cynthia rowley is another story) so i am hoping that more wearable and subtle styles make it into stores for spring. i know zac loves to pile it on, but i think when he tones it down (just a touch) is when he’s most successful.
