s/s 2008 paris: valentino.

valentino showed his final ready to wear collection today, and even though it was not the retrospective i expected, it was full of gorgeous and wearable clothes that were *gasp* a bit fashion forward. usually to me, all valentino shows look the same, but this one had more color and a decidedly younger feel.

the show opened with a large pink section: dresses in all different configurations and color blocked with a bright periwinkle, or periwinkle with lemon yellow. then the collection moved into a more monochromatic black/white/tan/cream phase. the suiting here really stood out…the last outfit above in cream has some fantastic detailing.

there were lots of cocktail dresses for showing off your gorgeous gams: sequined t-shirts, ruffled babydolls, two tone empires, polkadot drop waists with spaghetti straps…this belted metallic mauve with shoulder and hem draping was one of my favorites.

the evening dresses were valentino shined, of course. my faves were the three above, especially the one on snejana (center), with the aqua ruched bust and vertical fanned hem. and instead of sticking to strictly red, he branched out into other colors, like a golden beige, and the pink and yellow from earlier in the show.

valentino’s swan song will be at the couture shows in january, and you can bet it will be a star-studded affair…and that you’ll see some of these dresses on the red carpet.
