the sincerest form of flattery.

tara subkoff used to stage strange and interesting shows for her imitation of christ line. now the designer seems to have mellowed with age, and part of that mellowing can be seen in her new diffusion line, imitation. subkoff is completely hands off in this effort; she left the running of the line to former sass & bide ceo josh sparks and the designing to kasia bilinski (formerly of richard chai and threeasfour).

the line is stripped of all extra acoutrements and really focuses on the fabrics, such as fine silks and wools, and the idea that the pieces can be layered or convert into other pieces. from the pics on wwd, i like the drapey-ness and the simplicity of the pieces. the line looks really interesting and well thought out, much more so than ioc.

a capsule collection will launch this fall before the full blown line in the spring; get the capsule collection at kirna zabete, joan shepp (in philly), fred segal flair and satine (in l.a.)
