resort 2013: reed krakoff, the row, and proenza schouler.

collections the one thing Uncategorized

this week’s one thing is all about some of my favorite resort (or pre-spring) collections. resort seems so far away (wasn’t it just december?) but i’m seeing ideas that i want to try—and pieces that i want to buy—now.

reed krakoff
at reed krakoff, i was in love with the sporty minimalism—beaded polos, bomber jackets, contrast sleeve t-shirts, and slouchy sweaters paired nicely with leather shorts, skinny pants with zip front legs, asymmetrical wrap skirts, and sleeveless trenches. the monochromatic way of dressing was also big here, with looks in punchy orange, soft peach, aqua, or black.

the row
fresh off their win as cfda womenswear designers of the year, mary-kate and ashley olsen delivered a very grown up yet ageless collection. all the hallmarks of the line were there, like luxurious cashmere sweaters, silk striped blouses, loose trousers, leather leggings, a softly pleated skirts. the real star was the outerwear, which included a ribbed leather car coat, a soft mocha trench, and a navy rain slicker.

proenza schouler
fashion realness came from proenza schouler, where my favorite look from their resort collection was a white t-shirt, faded slouchy skinny jeans, and an oversized tweed utility jacket. like krakoff, the ps collection featured lots of leather, like on the bodice of a dress, in cropped trousers, or a pleated a-line skirt. the aforementioned jeans are part of a larger denim launch which will include different silhouettes and jackets…all of which i can’t wait to see in person at their new store the next time i’m in nyc.
