the one thing: a big bore.

celeb spotting the one thing Uncategorized

my favorites from the after-parties, clockwise from top left: diane kruger (calvin klein), zoe saldana (marios schwab), jennifer lopez (zuhair muhad), shailene woodley (proenza schouler), claire danes (valentino), kate bosworth (prabal gurung)

as a fashion lover, the academy awards was a let down after the more adventurous red-carpets from the golden globes, screen actors guild, and other awards shows this season. although one designer didn’t steal the show (there were a few elie saab’s, but not the overload of marchesa, etc.), i definitely sensed the absence of heavy hitters like oscar de la renta, chanel, calvin klein, and yves saint laurent. while there wasn’t much to be excited about in the oscars red-carpet, the after parties were another story. where was this mix of designers and styles—the overall lightheartness—earlier in the evening? is it because people think they need to dress a certain way for the academy awards? if so, that is really a shame because i’d rather see people taking risks and having fun with fashion (i only thought gwyneth paltrow in tom ford fit in that category) than the bore that was yesterday’s red carpet.
