go/see/buy: heather day x bonmot.

go/see/buy the new look

’tis the season for gifting—and gift guides. a few years ago i did shop small holiday featuring small businesses, local and beyond, on and offline, and this year with the economy being what it is, i’m again trying to buy gifts and holiday goods from small businesses. one that i discovered a while back is bonmot (means “good word” or commonly “good one” in french) designed by rebecca rauth. after working in product development for old navy and piperlime for over ten years, rauth started her own company a year ago, focusing on well made sophisticated classics with a bit of wit (like a collection based around shark week). she uses the finest silks (like you’d see from high-end brands) and finishings, and everything is designed and manufactured right in san francisco.

for her first collaboration, she partnered with oakland fine artist heather day, turning day’s paintings into prints that are used on tops, dresses, and notebooks. i immediately gravitated towards this graphic black and white mini dress with a side ruffles and a dropped waist. it can be worn in so many ways—with sandals in the summer, booties or over the knee boots for cooler weather, or a bit more unexpected by pairing it with sleek black jeans and suede pumps.

read more about their partnership on the styleline, heather’s thoughts on fashion and art on her blog, and shop the collection here. bonmot pieces make a great gift or a treat for yourself.
