so New York F/W 05 Fashion Week has begun, and the most directional shows were by…Marc and Narciso, big surprise.

Marc Jacobs (whose show started a hour and a half late because he was waiting for dresses to arrive) said he was influenced by Violet from The Incredibles, Edward Gorey, and A Nightmare Before Christmas. Skirts, coats, and dresses were voluminous, with strange childlike proportions. Everything was shown with flat elfish shoes and tights, with a very haphazard feel. He also brought bags back to the runway, showing velvet and croc with chain handles. Editors have been hailing it as groundbreaking or trash, of course. The real test will be in July, when it starts to hit stores.

Narciso also embraced volume, but also color, showing fushia, red, teal, hunter green, gold, and navy mixed in with his typical black and white palette. Skirts and dresses had a slight balloon shape and were shown over his new cut-above-the-bust bolero, done in wool, cashmere and sequins. And of course, the shoes were to die for…how I love this man!!
