f/w 07.08 new york: proenza schouler.

collections Uncategorized

i wanted to like the proenza schouler collection, i really did. considering how strong their f/w 06 show was, and the interesting direction they explored in s/s 07, i had high hopes. instead i felt like this collection was a mix of f/w 06 prada, with some ralph lauren thrown in, and not enough of that signature, edginess jack and lazaro are known for.

the collection moved away from the leger/alaia cum sportiness from spring and into a sophisticated refinement complete with embellishment and ornateness. the pieces included patchwork coats with cocoon collars and sleeves, puff sleeve shirts with beaded bodices, slouchy menswear trousers, and cabled short-sleeve sweaterdresses.

the next segment featured mostly dresses, in pleated chiffon with sheer bodices, bustier overlays, and square beading, in jewel toned taffeta. but then it was back to black and white, with belted cardigans, varsity bomber jackets, above the knee slim skirts, kimono sleeve coats with knit collars or fur cuffs, and shifts with art deco beading. a grown up collection from my favorite kids.
